What could have been

Sean Payton. Tony Sparano. Norv Turner. As Randy Galloway kindly reminds us, these are just a few of the folks Jerry has passed on during the process of hiring and keeping Wade. Surely there’s a good reason Mr. Jones has ignored such strong coaching talent. My theory? Jason Garrett.

After some initial success at the offensive coordinator position, Jerry decided that Jason Garrett was going to be the next coach, but decided that it was best to allow him to organically grow into the job. So Jerry pays him obscene money to keep him around as an assistant coach while Wade kept the seat warm. Unfortunately, Garrett hit some obstacles along the way and Jerry was forced to keep Wade around a little longer than planned.

Mark my words—once Wade’s finally gone, Jason Garrett will be crowned king.

I’d love to hear some of your [conspiracy] theories as well. Tell me, what other reasons would Jerry have for keeping Wade?

Aside from the obvious puppet motivation, here's one: the potential lockout in 2011. All coaches under contract in 2011 will be paid whether the season is played or not. So, in essence, Wade could be on a one-year contract. My thought is that Wade Phillips will not be the coach of the Cowboys in 2012. If the 2011 season is locked out, Jerry has a full year to assess the coaching situation. If it isn't locked out, Wade may be the coach, but there's still nothing stopping Jerry from dumping Wade with one season left on his contract and bringing on someone else.

Either way, both men get what they want. Jerry gets the flexibility of being able to bring on a new head coach for the 2012 season. And Wade gets paid in 2011.

Look at virtually every NFL dynasty, they all have long-term, steady head coaches. Wade will get it right with the right Dallas Cowboy team (2010, 2009 defensive line coach left for UGA prior Minnesota game). Jerry's history with coaches seems misguilded, at best, after running of Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Sean Payton and, Tony Sparano. Jason Garrett need more experience before assuming the helm of the Dallas Cowboy coaching staff. Maybe as head coach, Jerry would allow Jason Garrett to hire a qualified Offensive coordinator!!!

Dear jerry jones im back your cowboys offensive line broke down in minnesota here is the keyto next year follow my instructions.Give your LT another year to prove he can stay healthy.Get rid of colombo trade him to sanfransisco for a 2nd round or 3rd. Let Doug Free get the start at RT i believe he can hold it down.Barber is strong but he does not have speed you can at least get at 1st round trade him to seattle or else where Let felix get the start. You can find another RB in the draft picks. That suisham guy has to go please get you a professional kicker. Please get rid of roy williams you are paying him 2 much money roy and romo are not on the same page trade him and find another receiver.I dont understand why do you not use Sam Hurd he is another miles austin. He can get the start try him.Explain to me why did you not sign Jamaica Rector 3 years ago and what about Ogle Tree those are good receivers. Also find tony romo a real back up i dont think kitna will get the job done but hes good.Marcus spears has to go he is a under achiever .How many times de he a sack a QB last year probably twice Like i said under achiever. See if u can work on a trade with broncos Gm and see if you can get Dumerville.I dont think Kosier your LG has what it takes You can find some one else better.

For all you Simpsons fans, don't you see similarities between Mr. Montgomery Burns and Mr. Jerry Jones? Who in the Dallas Cowboys organization would qualify as Waylon Smithers?
