Felix for Anquan?

by - April 18, 2009 - Posted in Offseason

Cedric Golden down in Austin suggest the Cowboys should make a deal for Anquan Boldin.

So here’s what should happen. The Cardinals, who are ready to part ways with aging tailback Edgerrin James, should send Boldin to Dallas for running back Felix Jones. The Cards would get a huge upgrade at RB while the Cowboys would give Tony Romo and wideout Roy Williams a needed boost in the passing game.

Personally, I’m no fan of giving up Felix, but the idea of Boldin as a Cowboy is an interesting one.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

This is a tough one. On the plus side, giving up Felix would give TaShard Choice more touches. Then you would also have the addition of Boldin that would make the Dallas offense downright scary.

On the minus side, you have the fact that Boldin and Roy Williams are both 1a receivers. Neither is really a proven #1 – yet – so you could have a potential disaster on your hands. The other issue is that Boldin will command a rather large contract extension, while Felix would be a relatively cheap commodity for the next few years. And with the Cowboys having had to give up on Chris Canty due to cap issues, I think it's best to keep the younger, cheaper player. Provided he can stay healthy, of course.

Absolutely no trades here given the Cowboys ugly history of trading for over-hyped receivers.

Not sure why the Cards would do that deal. Jones, while explosive in limited action, has played 1/2 season and is probably not an every down back in the NFL. The Lions were able to get three picks for Williams, who is probably not as good as Boldin. Wouldn't be shocked to see the Cards get something of similar value for Boldin. If am running the Cards, I would rather take the picks than a 1 for 1 swap for Jones. Frankly, if that offer was on the table, I think the Cowboys get the better end of that deal.
