You're definitely right about that. The only reason it really works in college football is because defenses lack the overall athleticism to stop it. That's not the case in the NFL. So, in the long-run, the Wildcat will have as much long-term success in the NFL as the Fun & Gun did.

Sorry, couldn't resist the opportunity to poke some fun at little Danny Snyder.

The problem with Jerry is that he's not an original thinker football-wise. The so-called Wlidcat worked well last year because it was novel. For the Dolphins it was more out of necessity than anything. Now here comes Jerry, wanting to copy what's already been done (and done, ironically, by a team employing 3 former Cowboys honchos). You think defenses haven't been working on a solution for this formation in the off-season? My prediction is that Jerry will jump on this bandwagon just in time for it to come to a screetching halt leaving the Cowboys with a wasted draft pick on a QB not suited for traditional NFL football.

The Cowboys definitely have the personnel in the backfield to pull it off. That stable of running backs could do some major damage with that extra element back there. It's still a bad idea, though. This is Jerry's Quincy Carter, Part Deux. Remember when Carter was drafted, athletic quarterbacks were all the rage with Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper making noise. So Jerry just HAD to have himself a quarterback who could scramble out of the pocket. Thus, the disaster that was the Quincy Carter experiment, was born.

Now, if Stanback can pull it off, then it probably wouldn't hurt to try it out in camp and preseason. But going out and getting someone, specifically for this role, is a very, VERY bad idea. Especially if that someone is Michael Vick. That would show ZERO growth by GM Jerry. It would actually be a rather significant regression.

This is just another example of the failings of GM Jerry. Rather than trying to fix what's wrong with the team, he's doing his media attention whore act again. That's all this is, a headline grab. Installing the wildcat to the Cowboys offense won't make a bit of difference next season. But it'll get people talking. Mission: Accomplished.
