Dear Mr. Jones
by Kristin Dohn - January 4, 2009 - Posted in Dear Mr. Jones
Dear Mr. Jones,
Know your strengths.
You are a great NFL owner. You are a visionary for publicity, a shrewd business mind, and a force to be reckoned with. You know how to make a splash in the papers. You are not scared to spend money and you have created a shrine to football in Arlington that the term World Class does not justify. You not only want to win, you want to dominate.
Unfortunately, you are not an elite general manager. You make questionable calls to bring in talented, yet troublesome players who destroy team chemistry. You listen to the wrong people and ignore sound advice. Be honest, Mr. Jones – if someone else had the same record as GM over the past 10 years as you, would he still be your employee? Of course not, because you demand the excellence that is needed to be a dominating force in the NFL.
Why then does this charade continue? Mr. Jones, we as fans implore you. Please fire Jerry Jones the General Manager, hire a proven football mind to construct the team, and sit back and take your place as beloved owner that does everything in his power to bring a championship home to Dallas.
Sir, please act now. Your legacy is at stake.
Sincerely,
Fans of the Dallas Cowboys

Please do the right thing Jerry. I cannot take the suffering any longer. It is time for everyone to boycott in 2009, the only way we get his attention is his wallet.

I've actually met you, Stephen, and that is not fair to say to the beloved fans of the Dallas Cowboys football team. We all just want to see them win again, and I personally have thought for YEARS that your Dad made a mistake by letting Jimmy Johnson get away… he knows what the word 'team' means to the Dallas Cowboys and in life itself, it seems, and the boys haven't seen a season like the ones he coached since he left. Sorry, but it IS time someone spoke up!

A great leader knows her strengths and weaknesses and gets people to cover the weaknesses. Jerry either doesn't know or can't admit that he's a poor GM. The 'boys will suffer (along with us) until he realizes the problem.

all jerry has done is spend the city of arlingtons tax dollars on his new mega complex. He hasnt done a single good thing for the dallas cowboys! if he thinks this new stadium is going to bring his boys to a playoff much less a superbowl, hes out of his MIND! he is nothing but a little money hungry weasle!

People, let's remember to keep this civil and let's remember what is important. We're here to make an appeal to Jerry Jones. He said he needs to rethink the way he has been doing things. Let's support him. We are offering to him that he needs to consider letting someone else take the reins of General Manager. When he has been more hands-off in the day-to-day football operations, the Cowboys have had better success. He does well in other areas and let's support him in that.

Agreed! Through this site, our goal is convey our love and support of Jerry Jones the Owner. It is Jerry Jones the General Manager that unfortunately needs to go (think of them as two separate people).

Hey Stephen,
You remember when you and your girlfriend had a big fight at Cape Buffalo in Addison some time ago? She went home with Willy the bartender. We all had a good laugh with Willy telling us when the two of you returned the next night, apparently all lovey-dovey again, you were kissing her at the bar. Willy said ” yeah, the poor dumb bastard was tasting my dick!”.

Stephen…I have been a die-hard Cowboy fan for 30 years. I have a question…what do we have to be spoiled about in the last 14 years? Everyone loves Jerry the owner, but you know no other franchise would hire him as GM.

I agree with Jeff. As an owner, JJ spends the money to get the players, though some of the have questionable reputations. He spends money to get a new stadium…but as a GM what has he done? No team in the league would have kept a GM like him around for this long. We just want to get back to the way it was when the cowboys were winning Super Bowls.
And if that Stephen Jones, son of Jerry Jones…you yourself should realize that something needs to change and that Cowboys fans might be some of the most loyal fans in the NFL. If we are whining it's because maybe we would like to win a playoff game sometime.

Jerry if you would like to get any inkling of how we feel about you let me ask you one question. At a professional level, what do you think of the Steinbrenners and how they run the Yankees? Or perhaps your good buddy Al Davis. Please take a hard look at yourself and evaluate yourself fairly.

As a person who remembers owning a Danny White Jersey when I was itty bitty, and a former resident of DFW, and now a resident of Philly, I am grateful for the passion and dedication to winning that you have brought to the Cowboys as a spokesman and owner. I cheered the Cowboys through 1-15 and the Super Bowls you brought to this town.
However, as GM – you have hired a number of people who I do not want my two boys looking up to or admiring. There is no semblance of personal accountability within the team effort and unified approach that is the essence of football. Therefore, I am sad to say I will probably be pointing my boys toward cheering for the Eagles. Ugh.

I, with some friends will be starting a similar website. The URL is not set yet as it is still under construction. We will be trying to get contributions to put up a billboard in Irving somewhere near VR similar to what the Bengals did. Once we have done so, we will link to this site as well. This needs all of the exposure it can get. If anyone knows of any site similar, please let me know as we will link them as well.

Jerry, if you read this, i appreciate what you have done in the past with Jimmy Johnson and winning 3 Super Bowls. But now this team is full of Me-First guys, no leaders and a group of stars/thugs with no chemistry. You love being on ESPN with drama, i don’t! It is a disgrace to the Star, you are a disgrace to the Cowboys. I want a TEAM with HEART! That is what i want, i am sick of the crap you are putting out there and bringing back a coaching staff that has no right to a second chance. If you can’t figure it out, sell the team and let someone else take a shot at it. As for your new stadium, i could watch the Cowboys in the parking lot as long as they are playing quality TEAM football. I am sick of this mess you have created. If i could, id convert to a Texans fan.

The only way to push this through, and this is a huge maybe at best, is to back this with your wallet. Jerry is a great marketing guru, he is a showman, he is flashy, and he is a great businessman. And yes, I do think he is a great owner as well. But as long as the money is coming in, and the stadium is full, he will continue to do the same things he does. It wasn't until revenue starting falling, and people stopped going to games did he hire a real coach (Parcells). Until that happens again, especially with a new stadium, he will continue to run this team into the ground as a GM.

I received the following in an e-mail that has been circulating. I have to say, you can't help but laugh. Only Dallas Cowboys fans are allowed to laugh. Fans of other teams and Jerry Jones are not allowed to laugh these jokes though.:
The Texas State Police are cracking down on speeders heading into Dallas. For the first offense, they give you 2 Dallas Cowboy tickets. If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.
Q. What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
A. The Dallas Cowboys
Q. What do the Dallas Cowboys and Billy Graham have in common?
A. They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell “Jesus Christ”.
Q. What's the difference between the Dallas Cowboys and a dollar bill?
A. You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.
Q. How many Dallas Cowboys does it take to win a Super Bowl?
A. Nobody remembers.
Q. What do the Cowboys and a possums have in common?
A. Both play dead at home and get killed on the road!

Ok Mr.jones im back . After that giants game you should have released that bull shit ass kicker if he cant make field goals he aint worth shit. `I respect you as the owner of the cowboys but i have to tell it like it is. you m ight want to consider of getting back gramatica he is a free agent waiting to b e signed. when is the last time spears has had a sack . you know he has talent but he does not play like it.why is that? Because he is a under achiever .Please get rid of him its not too late to make changes find some one else who can help put pressure on the quarter back. Not only miles and williams can make plays. You have ogletree and hurd whos not even being used.Felix jones runs the ball better on screens and hunch back wheel around .you are getting ready to face a powerful offense on dec.19th make changes in your defense 3-4 zone mlb drop back defensive end contain 3-4 8man blitz and 3-4 cornerback blitz jenkins is getting better each day b ut scandrick is not i think its time for another cb to take over for the year. if 3-4 does not work for you on the 19th then get ready for your dime double coverage against colston contain the outside for bush blitz like hell on drew breeze the maximum 8 .the saints do not have a defensive frontline you can run the ball up the middle on them and set up screens . run run pass is what you have to concetrate on. Use time of possession and ball control. to catch the defense off set hurry up offense every once in the while will not hurt.I will be watching and keeping in youch with you . p.s Tarrell Ball

Jerry, I was a Cowboy fan from 1969 ( 5 yrs old) until the day YOU fired Tom Landry in a mostly cowardly manner. Then when Jimmy Johnson brought the team around I thought, 'maybe I should rethink my position' then true to form you destroyed that part of team history. Hope you go down the billion dollar toilet w/ your mistake of a scoreboard that has to threaten collegians w/fines for attempts to hit it w/punts, etc. because that might bring attention to YOUR lack of forethought in another area besides that of talent evaluation.
Please if you have any dignity whatsover, hire someone who KNOWS how to do their job(GM) AND LET THEM DO IT! For the sake of the team, the franchise, the city and yes you and your investment. You are not making history for the team you are diminishing it. Football is a team sport and not just on the field. BUT most of the players know that sometimes you have to sacrifice your time, plays or glory for the good of the team. At least the players knew that before YOU stuck your fingers into the mix.

F Jerry Jones. Do you know how many people he squashed for that monolithic idol of a stadium? Do you know how many people he has destroyed in his quest to have all the power of the NFL in his empire? I'm sure most don't care as long as you can get your fill of a mediocre self-serving game that has become a beauty pageant rather than a game.
